Get Ahead Programme

We have partnered with the Get Ahead Programme to support young people  to find work experience. So far our students have had great opportunities and insight to the world of work. 

He's what students have said so far....

Yr 12

Kings College Hospital and Princess Royal University Hospital

‘During my placements, I learnt a lot about how to support patients, showing empathy when discussing their health and wellbeing. I liaised with doctors discussing patients’ medical conditions, walking around wards. I spent time with an apprentice who told me her role as an administrator, compiling timetables and schedules. I met with a psychiatrist and talked about her career spanning many years. This gave me great insight.

The WEX has set me up towards becoming an administrator as I like organising and also am interested in Psychology.’

Princess Royal University Hospital

‘My work placement was fun and interesting. I enjoyed working with professionals, scanning and handling medication was also interesting. I learnt about the drugs I was handing out to patients. I was a bit nervous at first speaking to patients but started to gain confidence when guiding them through their prescriptions.’

Yr 13

The Manse Residentail Care Home in South Norwood

'Shadowing and helping staff to get meals prepared for residents and cleaning up. Spent quality time talking and listening to residents' life stories. I pampered them with manicures which they enjoyed. I assisted in taking their blood and sugar levels too.'

Overall a nice experience. I got along with staff and learnt how to be patient and acquired active listening skills'.
